momykids.com – German proverb says, “One child, then after that maternal weight increase of 3 kg.” It turned out to be true proverb. Research shows the average woman will gain weight (BW), about 6.3 pounds in a span of 8.5 years after having children. So do mothers who become pregnant while BB was less than ideal, it was 8.5 years later still leaves the average excess body weight 4.1 kg.
So if you are not vigilant and concerned with the BB on pre pregnance period and during pregnancy, women are obese. Whereas obesity has menkadi epidemic worldwide is usually followed by diabetes.
Ideal weight depends on a person’s height. One parameter used is the Body Mass Index (BMI) or body mass index. BMI is calculated based on body weight in kilograms divided by the unit square of height in meters. BMI makes the categorization as follows:
- Skinny : weight <18.5
- Normal weight = 18.5 to 24.9
- Overweight: weight = 25 to 29.9
- Obesity : 30 or greater
Example: maternal BMI of 50 kg with 1.65 meters height is 50 / 1.65 (2 square) = 18.4 kg/m2. Referring to the categorization above, then the weight is relatively thin.
Prospective mothers who have less body weight (lean), more often experience anemia during pregnancy, and risk of premature delivery and low birth weight (LBW). While gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and bleeding after delivery is rarely found in women with low weight. Risk of chronic hypertension, gestational diabetes, or preeclampsia more lurking mothers before pregnancy already overweight. Alternatively, the babies of mothers fat / obesity has the potential to have a birth weight more than 4 kg so that have long-term risk for diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension, and high blood fat.
Another adverse effect is the occurrence of the failure of normal delivery, congenital defects and fetal death in utero on gestational age advanced.
In pregnant women who are overweight or obese is generally quite difficult to do ultrasonographys examination (USG) and fetal heart rate monitoring. That was caused by a layer of fat in the abdominal wall is thick. As a result, supervision during pregnancy and delivery can not be done optimally.

To maintain ideal body weight in order to remain on the pre pregnant, there are some steps that can be done. First, increase consumption of high fiber foods, like fruits, vegetables, and rice husk that still exist. High-fiber food that will prolong the process of digestion and provide a sense of satiety which is also long.
Second, consider the feeding schedule. Breakfast with a sufficient portion could be performed, while the dinner portion may be reduced. As we say in Germany, “Breakfast like a king, lunch like a minister, and dinner like a beggar.” The mistake often made is not breakfast and dinner in large quantities or eat too late.
Third, do regular exercise. Sports beneficial to enhance the body’s metabolism rate and burn excess calories.
Fourth, note the time sleeping at night. People who sleep too late at night tend to eat a snack food additives such as hunger scourged.
